YOUR GAME, IN CONTEXT.

One scale.
Two sides of your game.

Matchup Rating (MR) tracks pitching and hitting separately on a 1–10 scale. A scorecard’s points are not your rating.

Pitching MR and Hitting MR

A pitcher has a Pitching MR. A hitter has a Hitting MR. If you play both roles, each role has its own rating and history. Baseball and softball ratings are separate too.

A new player appears as Unrated until a confirmed result starts their rating. The model uses a starting estimate of 5.00 internally; it is not an earned rating or a claim about an untested player’s ability.

The Expected Matchup Model

The Expected Matchup Model (EMM) compares recorded outcomes with what the model expected from the two players’ current role ratings. Those expectations are locked when the scorecard is opened, so they do not move while a session is being entered or reviewed.

For example, an outcome against a higher-rated opponent is evaluated in a different context from the same outcome against a lower-rated opponent. Rating uncertainty affects the size of updates, and repeated matchups with the same opponent receive less weight. There is no universal “one home run equals a fixed rating increase” rule.

Points tell the story of one scorecard

These points summarize a matchup. MR instead considers the outcomes in the context of the opponent and the model’s expectations.

No rating change until you both agree

Complete every at-bat, submit the scorecard, and have both players confirm it. Only then does it count. One player cannot approve on behalf of the other, and repeating a confirmation does not count the result twice.

A disputed result is withheld from ratings while it is reviewed. A corrected scorecard needs both players’ approval again. Badges and achievements never add rating points.

Follow progress over time

Your profile shows your applicable role rating and recent confirmed results. Provisional ratings have less match history behind them; more varied, confirmed competition helps the model build a fuller picture.
